Lead Machinist

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor other machinist and welding personnel
• Program 5-axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes using Mastercam or NX
• Machine high-precision prototype parts to exact specifications using lathes, mills, waterjets, and grinders
• Troubleshoot NC programs in real-time to ensure reliability
• Collaborate with engineers and shop personnel to determine proper methods and sequences of operations
• Establish and maintain machine shop standards, including procurement support for capital equipment
• Maintain a safe working environment and guide others in safe machining procedures
• Perform preventative maintenance on machine tools
• Support composite fabrication and aircraft system maintenance as needed

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience working in the aerospace industry
• Proven leadership and people management experience
• Proficiency in 5-axis CNC programming and CAD/CAM software (Mastercam or NX)
• Strong expertise in blueprint reading and GD&T
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)
• Extensive experience machining materials such as Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Titanium, and Inconel
• Strong mechanical and metallurgical background
• Ability to design parts and fixtures
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Catia
• Experience with wet lay-up and pre-preg composite fabrication processes
