About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct lead hazard inspections, risk assessments, and remediation investigations in residential settings.
  • Collect environmental samples including paint, dust, and soil to identify lead hazards.
  • Provide detailed investigation reports and hazard reduction options to stakeholders, including healthcare providers, property owners, and families.
  • Oversee renovation phases for department-managed lead abatement projects, including managing the bidding process and coordinating with contractors.
  • Deliver educational sessions and technical assistance to families and community groups regarding lead poisoning prevention.
  • Maintain accurate case files and documentation in the HLLPSS database.
  • Operate and maintain specialized field equipment, such as X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related Biological, Chemical, or Physical science.
  • Two years of related experience in lead inspection, environmental health, public health, or housing inspection.
  • Lead Inspector/Risk Assessor certification.
  • Lead Abatement Contractor certification.
  • XRF analyzer training.
  • Valid Iowa driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with case management principles and medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Access).
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
