About the role
Responsibilities
- Design enterprise DNS architectures and standards to support resilient, scalable name resolution across hybrid environments.
- Engineer IPv6 addressing plans and network designs using 128-bit formats, subnetting, and architecture patterns.
- Implement reverse DNS delegation for IPv6 using ip6.arpa zones and nibble-format delegation models.
- Execute IPv6 transition and mitigation approaches, including Dual-Stack, NAT64, and DNS64.
- Operate core DNS services with an availability-first mindset to ensure consistent performance.
- Troubleshoot complex DNS and connectivity issues using tools like dig and nslookup.
- Analyze routing and protocol interactions, including BGP and OSPFv3, impacting DNS reachability.
- Automate repeatable DNS and IPv6 operational tasks to improve consistency and time-to-recovery.
- Document designs, runbooks, and troubleshooting playbooks to reduce operational ambiguity.
Requirements
- 5+ years of applied infrastructure engineering experience.
- Advanced DNS core competencies, including authoritative and recursive DNS concepts.
- Fluency in IPv6 addressing and architecture, including subnetting and Global Unicast/Unique Local addressing.
- Knowledge of reverse DNS delegation for IPv6 using ip6.arpa zones.
- Hands-on experience with IPv6 transition mechanisms such as Dual-Stack, NAT64, and DNS64.
- Strong networking and diagnostics capability with a practical understanding of TCP/IP layers.
- Working knowledge of routing protocols including BGP and OSPFv3.
- Proficiency with troubleshooting tools such as dig and nslookup.
- Experience operating within controlled change environments involving peer review and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with logging, telemetry, and visualization tools such as Splunk, SevOne, ThousandEyes, or Grafana.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to explain complex DNS/IPv6 concepts to stakeholders.
- Experience building operational dashboards and service health indicators.
- Ability to standardize complex network/DNS patterns into repeatable reference architectures.
