About the role

Responsibilities

  • Support and oversee day-to-day tasks of assigned horticulture team members
  • Prune, weed, and install plants in landscaped areas
  • Monitor and repair irrigation systems, including heads and lines
  • Hand water unestablished plantings and oversee over seeding
  • Apply herbicides as needed
  • Maintain and clean all necessary equipment and tools
  • Operate heavy equipment and skid steers to assist with tasks like turning compost
  • Design and learn to design annual beds
  • Mentor new staff and relay work requests or park issues to the Horticulture Manager
  • Assist other departments and keepers with exhibit maintenance when required

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision
  • Ability to operate small, medium, and heavy equipment safely
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs and working in all weather conditions
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for 8–10 hour shifts

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in landscaping or grounds maintenance
