Lead FX Artist

Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of high-end FX including explosions, fire, water, smoke, destruction, and magic
• Work closely with Supervisors and other departments to blend FX into live-action and CG environments
• Build procedural templates and reusable tools to improve workflow efficiency
• Define FX style, mood, and aesthetics through advanced lookdev
• Mentor and provide feedback to fellow artists to foster craft excellence
• Troubleshoot simulations and optimize setups for smooth production
• Deliver high-quality work on time across multiple shots and sequences
• Contribute to R&D to stay ahead of industry trends

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as an FX Artist in the VFX industry
• 2+ years of experience in a Lead Artist role mentoring teams
• Mastery of Houdini
• Solid experience in Maya and Nuke
• Strong lookdev skills including shaders and materials
• Deep knowledge of fire, smoke, fluid, and destruction simulations
• Strong artistic sensibility combined with technical know-how
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with scripting languages such as Python, VEX, or MEL
• Knowledge of real-time engines like Unreal or Unity
• Experience working in fast-paced studio environments with tight deadlines
• Experience with Karma or volumetric workflows
