Lead Engineer - Protection & Control

Responsibilities

• Guide engineering design, estimating, and analysis of electric transmission and substation protection systems.
• Develop and manage the system protection platform, including settings, networking, and construction standards.
• Oversee engineering studies to evaluate equipment performance and analyze operational issues to ensure system reliability.
• Provide expertise in analyzing transmission fault event operations and deliver concise fault analysis reports.
• Lead the technical development and mentorship of the Protection Engineering group.
• Represent the company on regional and national committees and act as a liaison across operating companies and global affiliates.
• Evaluate and implement new technology platforms to increase system efficiency and safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
• Minimum of 7+ years of technical experience in protection engineering or a related field.
• Expert knowledge of power system protection standards and compliance requirements (e.g., IEEE, NERC, FERC).
• Proven experience with engineering design, analysis, and documentation.
• Ability to review and approve engineering work to ensure compliance with company and national standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's Degree in a relevant engineering field.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Expertise in performing complex protection coordination analysis.
• Strong project management and diagnostic problem-solving skills.
• Experience in cost estimating, budgeting, and least-cost planning.
