Lead Design Engineer - Power Systems

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and ownership of long-term investment plans for the transmission network, including planning up to 400kV.
• Define transmission system requirements and propose network designs to ensure compliance with NETS SQSS, Grid Code, and other standards.
• Engage with stakeholders and customers regarding network development, connection capacity, and technical requirements.
• Develop robust engineering need cases and optioneering to support regulatory engagement and submissions.
• Manage network risk by identifying technical issues and proposing innovative, cost-effective design solutions.
• Participate in industry working groups and contribute to documentation such as Future Energy Scenarios (FES) and Electricity Ten Year Statement (ETYS).

Requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
• Chartered membership of the IET or equivalent (or actively working towards it).
• Proven experience in power system design, analysis, or operations.
• Strong understanding of GB network design standards, including Grid Code and NETS SQSS.
• Knowledge of electricity transmission network design philosophy, policies, and legal/licence obligations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical matters to non-technical audiences.
