About the role

About the Company

Arcturus is creating a new wire technology stack that uses carbon nanomaterials to overcome the materials limitations of metals. Our technology is designed to significantly improve the performance of electric motors for drones and robotics, heat sinks, and ultimately the entire energy grid.

Responsibilities

  • Own the nanomaterials roadmap R&D, including selection, orientation morphology, purity, and functionalizations
  • Define integration approaches into aluminum and copper to improve electrical performance
  • Lead dispersion and interface engineering strategy, including verification methods
  • Build the characterization stack using Raman, SEM/EDS, and other methods
  • Define metrics for dispersion quality, interface integrity, and degradation
  • Partner with engineering to translate scientific results into material specs and process windows
  • Own hypotheses and experiments for long-term stability, including thermal cycling and corrosion
  • Define accelerated aging and failure mode discovery plans
  • Help shape patent strategy and drive IP disclosures
  • Help build and lead a small scientific team over time

Requirements

  • PhD or MS in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or physics
  • 8+ years of applied research leadership with impact on products or commercialization
  • Deep expertise in carbon nanomaterials
  • Strong scientific writing skills for technical documentation and invention disclosures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with carbon nanomaterial-metal composites or metal matrix composites
  • Knowledge of covetics or carbon/metal interface chemistry
  • Familiarity with graphene, carbon nanotubes, or graphene growth methods
  • Startup experience
