Lead Area Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site coverage across multiple hospital locations within the Appalachia region
• Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring Health Information Management (HIM) staff
• Act as a liaison between facility staff and company leadership to maintain client relationships
• Oversee daily medical record operations, ensuring HIPAA compliance and accuracy
• Process medical record and Release of Information (ROI) requests
• Manage high-volume inbound and outbound calls from patients and providers
• Handle fax, mail, and scanning operations, including updating EMRs
• Create encrypted patient record media and maintain chain-of-custody documentation
• Monitor queues and shared drives to ensure timely processing of information

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Prior experience in healthcare, medical office, HIM, or ROI
• Proficiency with EMR systems and general office equipment
• Ability to travel frequently between hospital sites in the Appalachia region
• Strong understanding of HIPAA and privacy regulations

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or team lead experience
• Experience with ROI and specific EMR systems
