Leachates Technician

Responsibilities

• Perform leachate extractions on environmental samples using EPA Method 1311 (TCLP), EPA Method 1312 (SPLP), ASTM methods, and Zero Headspace Extraction (ZHE) techniques
• Operate and maintain rotary extraction equipment and ZHE apparatus
• Prepare soil, sludge, and solid waste samples, as well as extraction fluids, buffers, and reagents
• Load, secure, and monitor extraction systems to ensure compliance with agitation and pressure requirements
• Filter and transfer extracts for laboratory analysis
• Document all preparation and extraction details accurately in LIMS, logbooks, and electronic systems
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment and adhere to all safety protocols regarding hazardous materials

Requirements

• 4-year degree in a scientific discipline or relevant science coursework/experience
• Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques such as using balances, pipettes, and quantitative sample transfer
• Familiarity with computer systems and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
• Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 8 hours) and lift/handle sample containers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to work weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with leachate extraction, ASTM methods, or ZHE techniques
