About the role
Responsibilities
- Represent low-income tenant associations in legal and administrative proceedings, primarily within the NYC Housing Part of the Civil Court.
- Provide direct legal counseling and practical advice to clients regarding their rights and effective strategies for redemption.
- Collaborate closely with community organizers to ensure legal strategies align with grassroots organizing efforts.
- Manage a caseload of approximately 10 to 15 active tenant associations.
- Conduct client meetings and tenant association meetings in client homes, including evening sessions.
- Maintain accurate case records, communications, and time tracking using LegalServer and Google Drive.
- Participate in community education through "know your rights" workshops, clinics, and outreach events.
- Supervise legal interns and externs as part of the organization's internship program.
Requirements
- Admittance to the New York State Bar within two years of graduation.
- Ability and willingness to attend evening tenant association and community meetings.
- Willingness to conduct client meetings in client homes.
- Commitment to zealously representing clients and adhering to professional legal standards.

Communities Resist (CoRe) is a coalition of neighborhood organizations dedicated to preserving and expanding long-term affordable housing. We work alongside tenant and community organizers in Brooklyn and Queens to combat gentrification, harassment, and displacement through legal advocacy and direct action.
