Laser Systems Specialist

Responsibilities

• Execute assembly work for passive optical builds and live laser systems
• Prepare assembled subsystems for international shipment including packaging and export compliance
• Install and integrate laser subsystems across optical tables, rack cabinets, and custom enclosures
• Execute small-batch prototype builds with fast turnaround
• Apply advanced PM fiber splicing techniques including fusion splicing and axis alignment
• Handle high-value and fragile optical components using anti-static protocols
• Document build steps and component configurations in Confluence and JIRA
• Support on-site troubleshooting and maintenance of installed laser systems

Requirements

• Technical training or degree in optics, photonics, or precision assembly
• Experience assembling and aligning free-space optical systems
• Advanced PM fiber splicing expertise
• Proficiency in fiber-optic connectorization and polishing
• Ability to work from engineering drawings and optical layouts
• Experience with opto-mechanical hardware like cage systems and breadboards
• Rigorous documentation habits

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in a laser lab or photonics manufacturing environment
• Laser safety discipline for Class 3B/4 laser handling
• Ability to read optical and mechanical CAD drawings
• Exposure to laser characterization equipment like beam profilers and spectrum analyzers
• Experience in a prototype or R&D build environment
