About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor Lands Department staff to ensure alignment with organizational policies and community priorities.
- Collaborate with Chief, Council, and community members to establish strategic land use and conservation priorities.
- Develop and oversee strategies to protect treaty rights, land use, and environmental quality.
- Manage agreements and partnerships with government agencies and industrial resource users.
- Review land use and conservation project proposals to ensure compliance with legal and treaty obligations.
- Oversee legal research and draft responses to sensitive project queries to inform leadership decision-making.
- Manage contracts, budgets, and funding proposals to support lands and resource initiatives.
- Represent the community on key resource management and land use committees.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Planning, Natural Resources, or a related discipline.
- 3 years of experience negotiating industrial agreements, such as MOUs, partnerships, or joint ventures.
- 3 years of experience in lands management, environmental management, or assessment.
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal law and Treaty #8.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the mining, forestry, energy, and oil and gas industries.
- Experience with budgeting, funding, and funding administration.
- Working knowledge of federal and provincial policies and legislation pertaining to Aboriginal land and resource issues.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

- Annual salary between $100,000 - $125,000.
