About the role
Responsibilities
- Assist course instructors with the design and preparation of student lab activities
- Serve as the first point-of-contact for lab emergencies and urgent needs
- Perform routine field techniques for the collection of plant and animal materials
- Maintain inventory of lab materials, consumables, and routine maintenance schedules
- Rear insects and aquatic invertebrates in containment facilities
- Organize and catalogue preserved fish, amphibian, reptile, and bird specimen collections
- Prepare, assemble, and set up equipment and supplies used in teaching and research labs
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences (focus on ecology or evolutionary biology preferred)
- Minimum of two years of experience supporting teaching labs and undergraduate courses
- Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment (e.g., spectrophotometers, microscopes, centrifuges, autoclaves)
- Experience maintaining live exotic animal colonies and curating preserved specimens
- Valid G class driver's license and ability to operate a department vehicle
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs regularly and work outdoors for field collections
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with field work and/or field collections
- Knowledge of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology course content
