About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the Departments of Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, and Biochemistry.
- Develop and execute preventative maintenance plans for research and instructional scientific instrumentation.
- Conduct troubleshooting, diagnostics, and essential repairs on scientific equipment.
- Coordinate with vendors and IT services for equipment installation and software support.
- Oversee departmental facilities including the maker-space, machine shop, and advanced engineering labs.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols for all relevant instrumentation.
- Train and supervise undergraduate students in the operation of laboratory equipment.
- Fabricate, machine, and assemble precision parts to support academic teaching and research projects.
Requirements
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related technology field.
- Proven knowledge of fabrication, laboratory equipment, and machine maintenance.
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing scientific instrumentation.
- Ability to train and mentor undergraduate students.
- Strong multitasking skills and the ability to manage various departmental needs.
- Interest in supporting the mission of John Carroll University.
