Laboratory Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to the Departments of Physics, Engineering, Chemistry, and Biochemistry.
• Develop and execute preventative maintenance plans for research and instructional scientific instrumentation.
• Conduct troubleshooting, diagnostics, and essential repairs on scientific equipment.
• Coordinate with vendors and IT services for equipment installation and software support.
• Oversee departmental facilities including the maker-space, machine shop, and advanced engineering labs.
• Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols for all relevant instrumentation.
• Train and supervise undergraduate students in the operation of laboratory equipment.
• Fabricate, machine, and assemble precision parts to support academic teaching and research projects.

Requirements

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related technology field.
• Proven knowledge of fabrication, laboratory equipment, and machine maintenance.
• Experience in troubleshooting and repairing scientific instrumentation.
• Ability to train and mentor undergraduate students.
• Strong multitasking skills and the ability to manage various departmental needs.
• Interest in supporting the mission of John Carroll University.
