Laboratory Technical Assistant

Responsibilities

• Perform daily husbandry care and monitoring for large animal barns within the Veterinary Medicine department
• Maintain biological safety and sanitation by cleaning floors, emptying stalls, and disposing of biohazard waste
• Monitor animal health by observing behaviors and reporting abnormalities to investigators
• Record daily animal census, environmental data (temperature/humidity), and feeding/watering logs
• Operate and maintain large animal equipment, such as forklifts, tractors, and floor scrubbers
• Assist with technical tasks including medical treatments, drug dilutions, and surgical instrument sterilization (Level 3)

Requirements

• Ability to lift more than 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including bending, reaching, and climbing
• Proficiency in animal handling and restraint techniques
• Strong attention to detail for data recording and following strict sanitation protocols
• For Level 2: One year of experience in animal care, medical technology, or a related biological science, OR an Associate's degree, OR ALAT certification
• For Level 3: Two years of experience in animal care, medical technology, or a related biological science, OR an Associate's degree, OR ALAT certification
