About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support laboratory operations during assigned shifts, ensuring safe and efficient performance
  • Supervise and guide employees, including coordinating shift schedules and assigning responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory analyses at all manufacturing stages to support quality control of raw materials and finished products
  • Maintain sampling, analytical, and monitoring equipment to ensure reliable operation
  • Implement and monitor testing practices in accordance with ASTM standards and internal procedures
  • Maintain documentation required to support ISO 17025 laboratory certification
  • Conduct metallurgical analyses and failure investigations of mill equipment
  • Analyze QA/QC data to identify process improvement opportunities and drive productivity

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education in Metallurgy, Material Science, or Engineering
  • 2-3 years of experience working in a similar industrial environment
  • Knowledge of ASTM standards, testing methods, and procedures
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work 10-hour shifts, including rotating weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in steel manufacturing
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience
