Laboratory Operations Director

Responsibilities

• Oversee technical operations and continuous improvement of the anatomic pathology laboratory
• Design and optimize workflows across multiple modalities including light microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and digital pathology
• Lead and mentor section managers to develop technical and operational leadership
• Own the technical training curriculum and competency standards
• Ensure quality and compliance with CAP, CLIA, FDA, and NY State regulations
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data-driven metrics like turnaround time and error rates
• Collaborate with pathologists, QA, IT, and finance to break down silos

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in laboratory science, biology, or a related field
• At least 7 years of leadership experience in clinical labs, research labs, or technical operations
• Strong technical background in laboratory settings
• Proven track record of managing teams and holding personnel accountable
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as CAP and CLIA
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant scientific field
• HT/HTL ASCP certification
• Experience in high-volume laboratory environments
• Success in building training programs
• Exposure to Lean or Six Sigma methodologies
• Familiarity with digital pathology, automation, or AI applications
• Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS)
