Laboratory Manager, Clinical Microbiology

Responsibilities

• Manage all technical and administrative aspects of the Clinical Microbiology and Immunology Laboratory, including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes
• Oversee laboratory operations to ensure compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements
• Lead staff development, engagement, and personnel functions, including hiring, training, and performance management
• Manage departmental financial performance, including capital and operations budgeting, cost accounting, and financial analysis
• Oversee the department quality program, monitoring metrics such as turnaround times and resolving quality events or investigations
• Identify process inefficiencies and implement improvements to minimize waste and increase safety
• Collaborate with the Operations Director and Medical Director to drive operational excellence and patient safety

Requirements

• Minimum qualifications must satisfy CLIA88 requirements for a technical supervisor
• Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related laboratory science (e.g., medical technology, biochemistry, chemistry)
• ASCP certification or eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Technologist, or Specialist
• At least five (5) years of experience in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in Clinical Microbiology
• Proven fiscal management experience, including budget preparation and financial reporting
• Strong computer literacy, including experience with laboratory/hospital information systems and statistical applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in a relevant scientific or business field
• Experience with EPIC Beaker Laboratory Information System
