Laboratory Instructor - Biology

Responsibilities

• Teach laboratory sections for courses such as Biological Principles and Scientific Reasoning in Biology
• Perform laboratory preparation, including generating handouts, preparing solutions, and maintaining equipment
• Present pre-lab lectures and instruct laboratory sections
• Oversee exploratory student-led research projects and supervise student assistants
• Provide guidance to students regarding data analysis and scientific writing
• Manage the collection and disposal of all laboratory waste
• Grade pre-lab assignments and laboratory reports

Requirements

• BS in a natural science field with an emphasis in Biology (MS strongly preferred)
• 1-3 years of experience teaching labs using laboratory equipment and techniques
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to provide instruction with sensitivity to different learning modalities
• Proficiency in data analysis and the use of computers for data acquisition

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching both field-based and lab-based laboratories
• Familiarity with laboratory techniques used in introductory biology
• Experience with pedagogical methods for individual and group instruction
