Laboratory Coordinator

Responsibilities

• Provide teaching and technical support for undergraduate biology laboratory courses, including microbiology and biochemistry, at the UTSC campus and the Toronto Zoo.
• Procure, prepare, assemble, and set up materials, equipment, and supplies used in teaching and research labs.
• Organize and maintain course information on learning management systems, including collecting and submitting grades.
• Act as the first point of contact for general enquiries and provide guidance to students, faculty, and teaching assistants.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and coordinate routine maintenance of lab equipment.
• Modify experimental processes to implement more efficient ways of conducting experiments.
• Coordinate with campus offices and the Toronto Zoo to support undergraduate students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or an equivalent combination of experience.
• Minimum four years of recent experience teaching or supporting biology labs in a university or similar setting.
• Minimum two years of experience preparing and setting up laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Strong knowledge of Microbiology and Biochemistry concepts and experiments.
• Hands-on experience with aseptic technique, protein purification, DNA extraction, PCR, microscopy, and cell culture.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to travel between the UTSC campus and the Toronto Zoo.

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate degree in Biology.
• Specific experience with laboratory teaching in microbiology and biochemistry.
