About the role
Responsibilities
- Prepare and set up laboratory experiments, ensuring all equipment and materials are functional before classes.
- Maintain accurate inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals, and equipment, and place orders as needed.
- Ensure all laboratory practices comply with institutional, state, and federal safety regulations and hazardous material disposal protocols.
- Oversee the cleaning, calibration, and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Assist students and faculty with equipment use, safe laboratory practices, and instructional support.
- Train students and teaching assistants on safety protocols and proper experimental procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of laboratory usage, inventory, chemical storage, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Supervise student assistants or work-study students involved in lab preparation and cleanup.
- Teach introductory biology or chemistry labs (requires Master's degree).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in an academic environment.
- Proficiency in laboratory management, inventory control, and safety protocols.
- Technical familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and techniques used in biology and chemistry.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with faculty and students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience in an academic instructional role.
