About the role
Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize animal laboratory areas, including floors, walls, equipment, and animal cages
- Operate tunnel, rack, and bottle wash machines, as well as autoclaves
- Feed animals according to specific schedules and dietary requirements
- Collect and remove soiled materials and equipment from animal areas
- Maintain facility supplies such as soap, air filters, paper towels, and sharps containers
- Prepare cages for use by reloading them with appropriate food and water
- Properly dispose of dead animals and waste materials
- Load, unload, and store food and bedding supplies from incoming deliveries
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety
Requirements
- Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- One year of related working experience
- Physically capable of performing duties including lifting up to 50 lbs
- No history of animal-related allergies
- Proficiency in English (both oral and written)
- Willingness to participate in the University Health and Safety immunization program
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as required
