Laboratory Animal Technician II

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize animal laboratory areas, including floors, walls, equipment, and animal cages
• Operate tunnel, rack, and bottle wash machines, as well as autoclaves
• Feed animals according to specific schedules and dietary requirements
• Collect and remove soiled materials and equipment from animal areas
• Maintain facility supplies such as soap, air filters, paper towels, and sharps containers
• Prepare cages for use by reloading them with appropriate food and water
• Properly dispose of dead animals and waste materials
• Load, unload, and store food and bedding supplies from incoming deliveries
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safety

Requirements

• Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• One year of related working experience
• Physically capable of performing duties including lifting up to 50 lbs
• No history of animal-related allergies
• Proficiency in English (both oral and written)
• Willingness to participate in the University Health and Safety immunization program
• Ability to work weekends and holidays as required
