Lab Tech Aide I

Responsibilities

• Perform waived and moderate complexity testing on manual, automated, and semi-automated platforms
• Process specimens and perform pre-analytic non-technical test setup according to department policy
• Assist Clinical Lab Scientists, Histology Techs, and Cytotechnologists with daily operations and instrument maintenance
• Operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and perform quality control procedures
• Manage laboratory requests, paperwork, and the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
• Assist with specimen setup for Microbiology, including media selection and incubation
• Support Transfusion Services by picking up blood samples and delivering blood components to patient locations
• Maintain, disinfect, and restock laboratory work areas and supplies
• Assist with pathology functions, including preparing cytology preparations, staining, and filing slides/blocks

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• One year of relevant work experience in a laboratory or hospital setting (or an Associate’s degree in a related field)
• Ability to learn complex tasks and prioritize work to meet deadlines
• Strong fine motor, mathematical, and reasoning skills
• Effective written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in a science-related field
• Previous experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory
