Lab Support Engineer

Responsibilities

• Provide L1 and L2 support via ticketing system and face-to-face for internal and external lab users
• Administer and maintain Linux-based systems and server fleets in hardware labs
• Install, troubleshoot, and maintain servers, rack mounts, PDUs, and related hardware
• Manage firmware, BIOS upgrades, BMCs, and out-of-band networks
• Document solutions and maintain an internal knowledge base

Requirements

• Strong Linux administration skills in Debian and RedHat derivatives
• Solid networking knowledge including VLANs, VPNs, Wi-Fi, routing, and subnetting
• Hands-on experience with desktop and server hardware, BMCs, PDUs, and rack mounting
• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Puppet or Ansible
• Excellent communication and methodical problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience identifying compute and network bottlenecks across complex workloads
• Familiarity with monitoring stacks such as Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
• Experience managing web servers, load balancers, and reverse proxies (e.g., HAProxy, nginx)
• Proficiency with containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker, containerd, or Kubernetes
• Python programming skills for API interaction, data processing, and small applications
