About the role
Responsibilities
- Lead investigations into alleged misconduct, fraud, intellectual property theft, embezzlement, and other violations of law or GM policy.
- Gather and document evidence, conduct interviews, and maintain investigation records according to professional standards.
- Provide legal and compliance counsel on anti-bribery, anti-corruption, export compliance, and conflicts of interest in South Korea.
- Communicate investigation findings and recommendations clearly to relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver compliance communications, leadership messaging, and employee training programs.
- Conduct due diligence on proposed business partners and assess business activities for compliance risk.
- Partner with Audit, Security, HR, and other cross-functional teams to support legal department objectives.
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited university or a valid attorney license.
- 5-10 years of relevant experience in a major law firm or corporate environment, including employment law, compliance, or investigations.
- Bilingual proficiency in Korean and English (strong verbal and written communication skills).
- Proven experience leading investigations into fraud, misconduct, or legal/policy violations.
- Deep knowledge of anti-bribery and anti-corruption requirements, including FCPA principles and South Korean law.
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with high levels of confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally, occasionally with minimal notice.
- Must currently reside in South Korea or have the ability to relocate to South Korea (no visa sponsorship provided).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in prosecutorial, regulatory, white-collar, or internal investigations roles.
- Experience conducting third-party due diligence and evaluating commercial compliance risks.
- Experience supporting compliance monitoring, audit follow-up, and fraud risk assessments.
- Ability to deliver practical, business-oriented solutions that balance legal needs with operational requirements.
- Strong understanding of the South Korean business and cultural landscape.
