About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily camp food service operations, including food preparation such as washing and peeling.
  • Set up food, supplies, and utensils for dining hall distribution.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all food preparation, storage, and dishwashing areas.
  • Wash dishes, serving equipment, and utensils according to regulated methods and temperatures.
  • Manage daily inventory of supplies needed for upcoming meals.
  • Operate the kitchen in accordance with ServSafe regulations and State of Michigan guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation and packaging of food for use outside the main dining hall.
  • Reduce waste and follow camp procedures for recycling and reusing items.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including unloading food and equipment.
  • Must be able to pass state and national background checks.
  • Must become a member of the Girl Scouts.
  • Current certification in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED, or a willingness to obtain it.
  • Ability to work in a professional camp environment involving heat, steam, noise, and standing for long periods.
  • Flexibility to work a 6-day workweek (typically Sunday through Friday) and live on-site in a communal environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an institutional or food service setting.
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification.
  • Knowledge of current health and safety laws and kitchen sanitation procedures.
  • Experience preparing special dietary foods, such as vegetarian options.
