KAYSC Freedom School Servant Leader Intern

Responsibilities

• Design and lead STEM and social justice service-learning projects relevant to the community.
• Deliver the Integrated Reading Curriculum to small groups of students for 6–8 weeks.
• Facilitate a supportive and structured classroom environment and manage classroom materials.
• Serve as a "Harambee! Leader" to motivate and inspire students daily.
• Lead afternoon activities, special events, and chaperone field trips.
• Recruit and retain middle school youth, specifically focusing on girls, youth of color, and youth from low-income families.
• Build authentic relationships with youth and parents through consistent communication.
• Manage large groups of children and parents during weekly empowerment meetings.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred).
• Experience working directly with youth from communities underrepresented in STEM.
• Experience teaching or utilizing STEM content for academic or leisure purposes.
• Experience acting as a mentor or supporter for youth positive self-development.
• Ability to frame science, technology, engineering, and math through a social justice lens.
• Ability to transport self to offsite locations and the Science Museum of Minnesota.
• Ability to travel to Tennessee (June 2–8, 2026) for CDF National Training.
