Juvenile Probation Counselor

Responsibilities

• Manage cases for juveniles under Juvenile Court jurisdiction, including both offender and non-offender cases.
• Supervise, monitor, and provide counseling to juveniles and their legal guardians to encourage positive behavioral changes.
• Assess risks, needs, and strengths of juveniles to implement and revise comprehensive case plans.
• Prepare and present reports and testimony in Court regarding juvenile matters in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
• Collaborate with local private and public agencies, service providers, and detention staff to ensure appropriate services are delivered.
• Mediate crisis situations and monitor client behavior.
• Recruit, screen, train, and support community volunteers.
• Maintain accurate client records, case notes, and statistics.
• Perform specialized tasks such as collecting DNA, conducting UAs, and fingerprinting as authorized by law.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral sciences.
• One year of direct service experience in Juvenile Justice, CASA/GAL, Social Work, or Volunteer Coordination.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to maintain a defensive driving certificate.
• Ability to pass the Washington State Training Commission's Juvenile Probation Academy.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
