Juvenile Counselor Trainee

Responsibilities

• Provide care, supervision, and security for adolescents in detention or dependent shelter programs.
• Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to aid in social development and behavioral adjustment.
• Implement constructive discipline and behavior modification techniques to encourage pro-social behavior.
• Monitor the physical and emotional well-being of residents, including managing medication and coordinating medical follow-ups.
• Prepare daily observation reports, conduct summaries for Juvenile Court, and maintain confidential resident records.
• Facilitate recreational, educational, and physical fitness activities to stimulate interest and engagement.
• Collaborate with families, caseworkers, law enforcement, and mental health professionals to support case management.
• Assist with resident preparation for court hearings, psychological testing, and appointments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Sciences or an Associate's Degree (or 60 college credits).
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with adolescents.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Ability to obtain Safe Crisis Management (SCM) certification.
• Ability to pass Pennsylvania Criminal and Child Abuse clearances, as well as FBI fingerprint clearance.
