Juvenile Counselor

Responsibilities

• Provide care, supervision, and security for children and adolescents residing at the Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center.
• Conduct interviews and gather information for assessments and interventions involving children, families, and caseworkers.
• Provide counseling to residents and families to aid in program adjustment and monitor family visitations.
• Monitor the physical and emotional well-being of residents, including assessing special needs and arranging emergency medical care when necessary.
• Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions and prepare group discussion topics.
• Implement appropriate disciplinary actions and encourage pro-social behavior through established modification programs.
• Supervise all resident activities, including chores, physical fitness programs, and night-time monitoring.
• Prepare daily observation reports regarding resident adjustment, interactions, and social/emotional problems.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all resident records and professional discretion.

Requirements

• Valid Driver's License.
• Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Sciences, an Associate's Degree, or a minimum of 60 college credits.
• At least 1 year of experience working with adolescents.
• Ability to obtain Safe Crisis Management (SCM) certification.
• Ability to pass Pennsylvania Criminal and Child Abuse Clearances and FBI fingerprint clearance.
