Juvenile Counselor

Responsibilities

• Provide care, supervision, and security for adolescents and children residing at the Edmund L. Thomas Adolescent Center.
• Conduct interviews and gather information for assessment and intervention, coordinating with families, caseworkers, and mental health professionals.
• Provide individual and group counseling to residents and their families to aid in program adjustment.
• Monitor the physical and emotional well-being of residents, including assessing special needs and arranging emergency medical care when necessary.
• Supervise all resident activities, including daily physical fitness programs, chores, and night-time monitoring.
• Implement appropriate disciplinary actions and use behavior modification techniques to encourage pro-social behavior.
• Prepare daily observation reports regarding resident adjustment, peer interactions, and social/emotional issues.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of all resident records and professional discretion.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Sciences, an Associate's Degree, or a minimum of 60 college credits.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with adolescents.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Ability to obtain Safe Crisis Management (SCM) certification, which requires physical agility and specific intervention skills.
• Ability to pass Pennsylvania Criminal and Child Abuse Clearances as well as an FBI fingerprint clearance.
