About the role
Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for the public and clients within the court system via telephone, fax, and email
- Receive, receipt, and balance monies paid to the court, including preparing daily cash reports and bank deposits
- Process legal correspondence and documentation received electronically or by mail
- Maintain court filing systems by entering data into automated and manual systems and ensuring proper document placement
- Manage records retention in accordance with departmental policies
- Schedule court cases and monitor the court calendar
- Provide legal information to the public regarding court forms, procedures, and navigating the system
- Perform quasi-judicial duties as a Staff Justice of the Peace as assigned
Requirements
- One-year post-secondary education in a related discipline plus three years of related experience (or an acceptable equivalency)
- Competency in a computerized environment with proficient keyboarding and data entry skills
- Experience handling cash and debit/credit card payment transactions
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to deal effectively with the public in stressful, sensitive, or confrontational situations
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to a legal environment
- Sound knowledge of the justice system and government services
- Bilingualism (English and French)
