Junior Materials Lab Technician

Responsibilities

• Carry out laboratory tests on soils, aggregates, concrete, and other construction materials according to industry standards
• Participate in CCIL certifications and ensure prompt, accurate testing and reporting of results
• Complete precise data gathering and entry to produce accurate final reports
• Support equipment calibration, maintenance, and general laboratory housekeeping to ensure a safe environment
• Participate in the laboratory quality control program and support internal/external audits
• Manage samples, including shipping, receiving, logging, storage, and safe disposal
• Collaborate with field technicians, technologists, and professional staff

Requirements

• Post-secondary technical education in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline
• 1-5 years of experience working in a soils laboratory
• Sound knowledge of standardized lab testing procedures (ASTM, AASHTO, or CSA)
• Experience with CCIL laboratory certification processes and equipment calibration
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data entry and report generation
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced environment
• A safety-conscious attitude and understanding of workplace health and safety procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• CCIL Type C certification
