Junior AV Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering, installation, maintenance, and technical performance for all university audio/visual and event lighting systems.
• Perform repairs on audiovisual systems and determine when external service is required.
• Support network-based AV/lighting systems, including monitoring, software/hardware updates, and troubleshooting Dante audio and AV-over-IP.
• Assist with fiber optic patching, cable termination, and basic splicing tasks.
• Participate in the planning of AV installations and university events.
• Maintain equipment inventory and assist with documentation of system configurations and as-built drawings.
• Provide training and supervision to Media Services student workers and graduate assistants.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of experience using standard audiovisual equipment (sound, video, film, and personal computers).
• Industry certification or equivalent practical experience.
• Familiarity with fiber optic patching and termination types.
• Ability to lift 50-75 lbs and climb ladders.
• Willingness to learn SMPTE ST 2110 professional media over IP standards.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends as required.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3-5 years of audiovisual experience.
• Experience in an academic or higher education environment.
• Familiarity with SMPTE ST 2110 standards.
