About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, upgrading, and installation of high-voltage electrical equipment in substations ranging from 13.8kV to 500 kV
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and apparatus including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and relays
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and electrical code specifications to plan layouts and wiring
- Inspect electrical systems and components to identify defects and ensure compliance with codes
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Electrical Apprentices
- Lead the installation and planning of ground grids, power system equipment assembly, and cabling
- Ensure all work complies with Technical Safety BC requirements and company safety standards
- Operate construction equipment such as skid steers, mini hoes, manlifts, and zoom booms
Requirements
- Valid and recognized Journeyperson Electrician Certificate
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Electrician
- At least 2 years of experience working in substations
- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and WorkSafeBC regulations
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to work comfortably at heights and in adverse weather conditions
- Willingness to travel to remote sites and work out of town
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in BC Hydro or utility-related work
- High-voltage experience
- PSSP/WPP, Cat 5, or equivalent training and certifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based test equipment
