Journeyperson Electrician

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, upgrading, and installation of high-voltage electrical equipment in substations ranging from 13.8kV to 500 kV
• Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and apparatus including transformers, circuit breakers, switches, and relays
• Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and electrical code specifications to plan layouts and wiring
• Inspect electrical systems and components to identify defects and ensure compliance with codes
• Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Electrical Apprentices
• Lead the installation and planning of ground grids, power system equipment assembly, and cabling
• Ensure all work complies with Technical Safety BC requirements and company safety standards
• Operate construction equipment such as skid steers, mini hoes, manlifts, and zoom booms

Requirements

• Valid and recognized Journeyperson Electrician Certificate
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an Electrician
• At least 2 years of experience working in substations
• Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and WorkSafeBC regulations
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
• Ability to work comfortably at heights and in adverse weather conditions
• Willingness to travel to remote sites and work out of town

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in BC Hydro or utility-related work
• High-voltage experience
• PSSP/WPP, Cat 5, or equivalent training and certifications
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer-based test equipment
