Journeyman Electrician

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment ranging from 120 to 480 volts
• Respond to service calls and perform preventative maintenance on University electrical systems
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, circuits, and control equipment to identify and resolve issues
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and electrical code specifications
• Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels
• Inspect and test electrical components using tools like multi-meters and oscilloscopes to ensure safety and compatibility
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and work order documentation
• Adhere to all safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out programs and OSHA standards

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current Texas Journeyman Electrician License
• Minimum of 1 year of skilled commercial or industrial electrical experience since obtaining licensure
• Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record
• Ability to operate a forklift, boom lift, and scissor lift
• Ability to work in various environments, including attics, trenches, and elevated spaces

Preferred Qualifications

• Two or more years of skilled commercial/industrial electrical experience since obtaining licensure
• Technical trade school certification in the electrical field
