IT Support Engineer

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day IT operations end-to-end across multiple sites
• Troubleshoot connectivity, hardware, software, and network issues
• Set up new hire laptops, accounts, and device enrollment in MDM
• Enforce MFA and maintain office and lab network stability
• Rack and cable new gear, manage instrument PCs, and resolve Wi-Fi coverage gaps
• Write runbooks and documentation to scale IT processes
• Run access reviews and coordinate with vendors, ISPs, and third-party consultants
• Support government data security certification efforts
• Use AI to draft knowledge-base articles, triage tickets, and script automation

Requirements

• Methodical troubleshooting across hardware, OS, software, and networks
• Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Wi-Fi, VPN, firewalls
• Experience with endpoint and identity management (MDM, imaging, SSO)
• Calm, clear, and empathetic communication with non-technical colleagues
• Security-first mindset: access controls, patching, least privilege
• Ability to triage queues, prioritize urgency, and follow through independently
• Habit of writing documentation and building scalable processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as the first or sole IT hire building tooling and process from scratch
• Exposure to lab, manufacturing, or OT environments and instrument PCs
• Familiarity with security baselines, endpoint security, and frameworks like SOC 2 or CIS
• Light scripting ability in Bash, PowerShell, or Python
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+ or vendor networking certs)
• Enthusiasm for IT at a hardware startup and commitment to climate solutions
