Intellectual Property Analyst

Responsibilities

• Conduct patent landscape, whitespace, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) analyses
• Analyze competitor patent portfolios to map R&D focus and predict product direction
• Perform complex prior art and validity/invalidity investigations using advanced search methodologies
• Collaborate with IP attorneys and R&D teams to provide data-driven recommendations
• Design and build interactive dashboards in Tableau or Power BI for real-time IP intelligence
• Automate IP workflows using Python, including data ingestion via APIs
• Apply Generative AI tools to assist in summarizing and classifying patent documents
• Prototype analytical models and custom scripting for business teams

Requirements

• Master’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science)
• 3-5+ years of experience in a dedicated IP role (Patent Analyst, IP Consultant, etc.)
• Hands-on expertise in patent searches including landscaping, FTO, and prior art
• Proficiency in Python and its core data science libraries
• Solid understanding of SQL for querying structured data
• Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI
• Familiarity with connecting data to LLMs via APIs (e.g., RAG)
• Experience with professional IP intelligence tools (e.g., Questel Orbit, PatBase, or Derwent Innovation)

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal certification in Intellectual Property (e.g., QPIP, WON)
• Exposure to graph databases like Neo4j
• Experience with vector databases for semantic search
• Experience building automated data pipelines for IP data ingestion
