About the Company
The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is the largest organization in the United States dedicated to preventing and addressing homelessness. DHS works to prevent homelessness, reduce street homelessness, provide temporary shelter, and connect individuals and families to stable housing with a focus on accountability, empathy, and equity.
Responsibilities
- Administer directly operated and contracted facilities to ensure safe and well-maintained environments
- Ensure compliance with mandates, agency standards, and regulatory requirements regarding the right to shelter
- Respond to critical incidents affecting client health and safety
- Conduct routine site visits and oversee programming activities
- Analyze program performance, placements, goals, and outcomes
- Supervise the shelter contracting process, including RFP evaluation and contract negotiations
- Liaise with local Community Boards to maintain cooperative relationships
- Provide direction to enhance communication between the agency and providers
Requirements
- Must be permanent in the Administrative Director of Social Services civil service title or eligible for title change
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university
- Four years of progressively responsible experience in social services, including one year at the administrative or managerial level
- Equivalent combination of education and experience permitted (e.g., Master's degree or LCSW/LMSW license)
- Ability to work Monday-Friday, 6:00pm - 2:00am based on 24/7 coverage requirements
