Insurance Analyst I

Responsibilities

• Manage new accounts daily using Receivables Workstation and interface with hospital departments to resolve claims
• Work through the Follow-Up queue by contacting payers via telephone or internet portals to promote collections
• Process incoming correspondence, including denials, prior authorizations, and signature letters
• Manage credit balance accounts and prepare necessary adjustments or refunds
• Maintain accurate and definitive notes in electronic account files regarding account status and resolution plans
• Stay current on payer requirements by reviewing bulletins, provider handbooks, and websites
• Assign status codes to worked accounts for tracking, statistical data, and audit purposes
• Handle special projects such as high-dollar accounts or accounts over 180 days old

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or higher level degree
• One year of billing or collections experience
• Billing certification or a successful internship/temporary assignment in a patient financial service setting
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Knowledge of computer-based claims management, database systems, and internet applications
• Ability to interpret payer contracts and regulatory guidelines

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with managed care and Medicare/Medi-Cal billing regulations
