About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing support for chemical manufacturing operations through the design, installation, and maintenance of field instruments and control system hardware.
- Manage assigned process control and electrical improvement projects, including scheduling, budgeting, testing, and documentation.
- Develop technical specifications for new or existing equipment and instrumentation based on manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with Site Maintenance, Operations, and Process Control teams to troubleshoot and determine instrument repair or upgrade plans.
- Supervise outside contractors for design and field construction to ensure compliance with site safety requirements.
- Follow Site Management of Change (MOC) procedures and conduct safety reviews during engineering definition and testing phases.
- Prepare or review preventative maintenance work plans for Instrumentation and Control systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Chemical, Instrumentation, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical plant environment.
- PENG certified or registered with PEO (or able to acquire PENG within six months).
- Demonstrated knowledge of process control systems such as Emerson DeltaV or Siemens APACS.
- Experience with digital instrumentation systems and safety interlock systems.
- Working knowledge of HART, ASi, Ethernet IP, and DeviceNet protocols.
- Proficiency in using CAD software to develop loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and cabinet layouts.
- Understanding of Electrical Area Classification and the Canadian Electrical Code for hazardous areas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of OSI/PI or equivalent process historian systems.
- Knowledge of industrial network infrastructure and fiber optics.
- Familiarity with three-phase AC motors, industrial motor controls, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
