Instructor of Communications | TV Broadcasting

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in broadcast journalism, television production, and digital media, including introductory and advanced levels.
• Provide hands-on studio and field instruction, overseeing student-led productions such as news broadcasts and live event coverage.
• Maintain and train students on studio equipment, including cameras, audio systems, lighting, and editing software.
• Develop project-based curricula and syllabi that align with current industry standards.
• Mentor students regarding academic progress, career pathways, and internship opportunities.
• Produce or facilitate content across multiple platforms, including streaming, social media, and linear TV.
• Participate in university service, including committee work, program assessment for accreditation, and campus activities.

Requirements

• Master's degree in TV broadcasting, Communications, Media Production, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours.
• Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the news media or television production industry.
• Demonstrated experience teaching at the college level or a strong potential for high-quality instruction.
• Proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro.
• Experience with live news production and digital journalism platforms.
• A strong professional portfolio showcasing relevant work.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the traditions of a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
• Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, which may include nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in grant writing and fundraising.
• Familiarity with the Jenzabar technology suite used in higher education.
• Experience mentoring diverse student populations.
