About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide engaging classroom instruction to convey theoretical concepts and foundational knowledge
- Lead practical training sessions using real-world scenarios and equipment to reinforce skills
- Create and manage detailed training timelines, including lessons, drills, exams, and evaluations
- Oversee assistant instructors to ensure consistent content delivery and student supervision
- Monitor training environments for compliance with safety standards
- Set up, operate, and demonstrate training equipment
- Conduct routine inspections and minor repairs on training equipment and protective gear
- Administer written, oral, and performance-based exams while ensuring testing integrity
- Observe and assess student competencies through structured evaluations and provide feedback
- Design and revise course content to align with industry standards and regulatory guidelines
- Maintain accurate records of lesson plans, attendance, grades, and course updates
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree preferred)
- Current State of Ohio Certified Fire Instructor or Assistant Fire Instructor
- Active or retired firefighter status
- Must reside in or be able to perform work within Ohio, Indiana, or Kentucky
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in a specialty such as Haz Mat, Auto Extrication, Gear Repair, or Rope Rescue
- Experience as an Apparatus Operator or State Trained Skill Evaluator
- Certification as a 1403 Live Burn Instructor, Flash-over Container Instructor, or Approved Burn Officer
