Instructional Assistant, PreK

Responsibilities

• Perform curricular, instructional, and clerical tasks to support teachers in a PreK or special education classroom.
• Provide instructional or developmental activities for general or special education populations.
• Work with individuals or small groups of students to reinforce learning in reading, writing, and math.
• Assist with the development of individualized programs and prepare instructional materials.
• Monitor and manage student behavior, including implementing behavior intervention plans.
• Supervise students during activities, independent study, or community travel settings.
• Maintain student files, record assessment data, and assist with routine care such as feeding and personal hygiene.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• One year of experience working with children (paid or volunteer) or equivalent coursework in teacher education.
• Knowledge of child growth, development, and instructional procedures.
• Ability to assist with reading, writing, and mathematics instruction.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work effectively with students and staff in a school environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• For assignments to Title I schools: An Associate degree, two years of college (48 credit hours), or meeting a rigorous state/local academic assessment standard.
