Inpatient Unit Clerk

Responsibilities

• Manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges for one or more inpatient units
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff
• Answer patient calls professionally and process physician orders and referrals
• Respond to emergent situations calmly and professionally
• Coordinate and record patient appointments and tests
• Procure necessary supplies, equipment, and services for patients
• Maintain accurate census information
• Assist in training new unit clerks and orienting staff to new policies and procedures

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Proven customer service experience
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Strong multitasking ability and attention to detail
• Proficiency with data entry and computer systems
• Ability to complete a four-week full-time training program

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as an inpatient clerk in a medical setting
• Considerable knowledge of medical terminology
• Familiarity with hospital policies and procedures
