Inpatient Unit Clerk

Responsibilities

• Admit, transfer, and discharge patients on one or more inpatient units
• Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff
• Answer patient calls in a professional manner and respond to emergent situations calmly
• Process physician orders, referrals, and coordinate patient appointments or tests
• Maintain census information and procure necessary supplies, equipment, and services
• Assist in training new unit clerks and orienting staff to new policies and procedures

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to complete a 4-week training program (including specific day shift hours)
• Ability to stand or walk infrequently

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as an inpatient clerk in a medical setting
• Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital policies/procedures
• Strong customer service, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to multitask and maintain high accuracy with details
• Experience with data entry or computer systems
