Infrastructure Engineer

About the Company

fab2 is an early-stage hardware startup founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. The team designs and builds all the hardware and software needed to make chips, including the fabs, tools, and components themselves.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement lightweight, performant, and reliable software infrastructure to power a semiconductor fab
• Procure, deploy, and manage a fleet of on-prem servers, virtual machines, and single-board computers
• Deploy and manage backend services including consul, vault, grafana, victoria-metrics, alertmanager, redpanda, vector, gitea, and postgres
• Design and setup low-level networking components such as service discovery, DNS, reverse proxies, TLS, S3 compatible storage, and VPNs
• Scale the observability platform to ingest system metrics and high-frequency telemetry from fabrication equipment
• Design and implement cross-site networking, replication, and backups
• Automate OS image creation, deployment, and software build systems
• Develop tools for security, authentication, authorization, and secrets management
• Help build in-house infrastructure-as-code tools

Requirements

• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated skill
• Hands-on experience in backend infrastructure or Site Reliability Engineering
• Proven ability to take complex systems from concept to production autonomously
• Deep proficiency in at least one statically-typed, compiled language
• Strong command of systems fundamentals
• A portfolio or GitHub demonstrating engineering excellence

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on programming experience in Rust or Go
• Direct experience managing on-premise, bare-metal infrastructure without heavy cloud abstractions
