Infrastructure Architect – Middleware

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategy, design, and evolution of the enterprise messaging and middleware ecosystem
• Drive platform rationalization by reducing legacy MQ instances and defining a "Messaging-as-a-Platform" model
• Architect scalable and secure MQ deployments across hybrid cloud environments, including AWS
• Implement HA/DR strategies such as RDQM, multi-instance, and clustering to meet RTO/RPO needs
• Develop automation frameworks using IaC tools like Terraform and Ansible to enable self-service onboarding
• Establish middleware governance, including security standards, TLS/mutual auth, and audit logging
• Drive observability by defining key MQ metrics and integrating with tools like Datadog
• Mentor junior engineers and serve as a technical subject matter expert across the organization

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in enterprise middleware with deep expertise in IBM MQ architecture and administration
• Strong knowledge of MQ HA/DR topologies (RDQM, Multi-instance QM, shared cluster patterns)
• Experience with cloud deployments of messaging platforms, specifically IBM MQ on AWS
• Familiarity with integrating MQ into DevOps pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC)
• Understanding of non-functional requirements including performance, security, and encryption protocols (TLS)

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of RabbitMQ, SonicMQ, or Confluent Kafka
• Hands-on experience with observability tooling such as Datadog
• Exposure to highly regulated environments (e.g., FINRA, SEC) and audit-readiness practices
• Strong leadership qualities with the ability to influence technical strategy without direct authority
