About the role

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and validate security policies, plans, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and agency standards.
  • Serve as the Primary COMSEC Custodian for the Center, ensuring secure management and accountability of communications security materials.
  • Conduct detailed inspections, audits, and process control analyses to enforce compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Provide expert interpretation of security policies and guidelines to offer strategic solutions to complex compliance challenges.
  • Design and deliver training and awareness programs to promote compliance with applicable security regulations.
  • Lead system certification and accreditation planning, testing, and coordination activities.
  • Support incident response efforts and analyze security logs to detect and respond to potential threats.
  • Act as a primary liaison between Sandia National Laboratories and governmental or contractor agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Proven experience implementing, enforcing, and managing COMSEC accounts, policies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Active DOE Q security clearance or a DOD equivalent.
  • Ability to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM, with the ability to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience serving as a COMSEC Custodian or managing communication security programs.
  • Familiarity with NIST, ISO, CNSS, and DOE/NNSA cybersecurity orders and standards.
  • Experience applying security controls to information systems and conducting risk assessments (e.g., NIST 800-53).
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP or CISM.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
